Jujitsu America presented its third Sport Jujitsu Competition
Event of 2006 on March 18, 2006, at Cahill’s Judo Academy in
San Bruno, CA. We were absolutely delighted to have a broad level of participation
with over 65 registered competitors from 10 different schools from San Francisco
to Monterey.
Each competitor had the opportunity to compete
in two matches during the event, which lasted over five hours, and culminated
in a special Black Belt exhibition match between Sensei Chris Peterson and Sensei
Scott Franke, who both showed great skill and sportsmanship in their match. All
of the matches throughout the day were hard-fought and all competitors received
a Gold or Silver Medal from Jujitsu America in recognition for their achievements
in the competition and in appreciation for the fact that each competitor is a
champion for just getting on the mat to participate and compete!
Each
of the competitors, officials, and spectators came away fully impressed by the
quality and intensity of all the matches, and especially the camaraderie and great
sportsmanship demonstrated by all the participants at the competition event.
Jujitsu
America will present its next Sport Jujitsu Event on May 20 at Cahill’s
Judo Academy in San Bruno. This will be a Sport Jujitsu Orientation Clinic for
Competitors (Adults and Children) and Officials, presented in preparation for
the upcoming Sport Jujitsu Tournament that Jujitsu America is organizing to present
in early Summer 2006. We encourage all interested competitors and officials to
participate! More details will be available soon.
Many thanks
and great appreciation to all the competitors, officials, spectators, and parents
for being involved! We look forward to seeing you at the next Jujitsu America
Sport Jujitsu Event!

Jujitsu America offered its second Sport Jujitsu event of 2006
with the Sport Jujitsu Orientation Clinic for Competitors (Adults and Children)
and Officials conducted on February 18, 2006, at the Monterey Sports Center in
Monterey, CA. Our goal was to continue to gather momentum for the Jujitsu America
Sport Jujitsu program by holding this event in Monterey, where we could present
the clinic to member schools in that area, as well as those that would want to
travel from the Bay Area. Like our previous event in mid-January, this clinic
was very well-attended, with 50 participants from 10 different clubs on the mat
in Monterey.
After
explaining the rules in detail for all the participants, a series of training
matches were presented simultaneously on two competition areas over the next two
hours, giving everyone an opportunity to participate in at least one or two matches.
Many competitors fought in training matches against opponents from other schools,
which gave them a good sense for the competition they’ll face in the upcoming
Competition Event in March.
Jujitsu America will present its
first Sport Jujitsu Competition Event of 2006 on March 18 at Cahill’s Judo
Academy in San Bruno. The event Announcement and Registration Forms are available
at the Jujitsu America website. Additional Jujitsu America Sports Jujitsu events
are being planned, including a number of tournaments.
Many
thanks to all the competitors, officials, spectators, and parents for being involved!
Everyone who participated thoroughly enjoyed the training and competition, and
there was a clear sense of camaraderie and good sportsmanship shown by all. Special
thanks to Sensei Scott Merrill for kindly hosting this clinic. Looking forward
to seeing everyone on March 18 for the Competition Event!

Jujitsu
America offered its first sport jujitsu event of the last few months with the
Sport Jujitsu Orientation Clinic for Competitors (Adults and Children) and Officials
conducted on January 21, 2006, at Cahill’s Judo Academy in San Bruno, CA.
This event was extremely well-attended with 75 participants from 9 different clubs.
After detailing the rules in a one-hour group discussion,
a series of training matches were presented simultaneously on two competition
areas over the next two hours, giving everyone ample opportunity to participate
and experience first-hand the format. By the end of the day, everyone involved
including participants, officials, and spectators expressed their enjoyment of
the event, the fun they had, and their enthusiasm in looking forward to the next
Jujitsu America Sport Jujitsu event!
Our next event will be
one more Sport Jujitsu Orientation Clinic, this time in the Monterey Bay Area,
during February 2006. Following that, Jujitsu America will present its first Sport
Jujitsu Competition Event on March 18, 2006, at Cahill’s Judo Academy. Additional
events are being planned, including a number of tournaments.

Many
thanks to all the participants and kudos to the Jujitsu America Sport Jujitsu
Committee, including Sensei Eric Renner (Committee Chairman), Prof. Joe Souza
(JA President), Sensei Scott Merrill, Sensei Duwane McCraney, Sensei Richard Bunch,
Sensei Chris Peterson, and Sensei Anthony Brewer. Special thanks to Prof. Cahill
for kindly hosting the event.
